Pinang Peranakan Mansion – Living Quarters
Title – Pinang Peranakan Mansion – Living Quarters
Description of place
This was taken at Pinang Peranakan Mansion, an amazing historical mansion in Penang, Malaysia. The mansion recreates the lifestyle of the Baba-Nyonya (Malay-Chinese mix) throughout different eras of history.
This shot is of one of the living quarters of the mansion, with an interesting mixture of Chinese carved-wood furniture and English floor tiles. The craftsmanship of the whole place is just beyond awesome, you have to visit it to fully appreciate it. Doing HDR on this shot definitely brings out the details and colours of the room.
Technical information
Nikon D7000, Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 @ 10mm, f/4, ISO 200, 3 exposures of 1/40, 1/160 and 1/10.
Converted RAW files (with 2 ‘artificial’ exposures created, so in total of 5 different exposures to bring out more details) into TIFFs and then tonemapped in Photomatix. After tonemapping it was processed in Photoshop with Topaz Adjust 5, various dodging and burning, soft light Gaussian blur, LAB colours equalizations (a very special technique I learnt to bring out colour), high pass sharpening, vibrance adjustments and curve adjustments.
